What you should know
A vented dirt crawlspace in this climate is a humidity pump. Damp air rises into the house, it makes the air conditioner work harder, and over time it goes after your floor joists and subfloor. Encapsulation seals the ground and the walls, then a dedicated dehumidifier holds the space dry year-round.

In this climate, yes. Sealing stops the bulk of the moisture, but the space still needs a way to shed what gets in. A properly sized, drained dehumidifier is what keeps it consistently dry rather than seasonally dry.
Should the vents be closed off?
Yes — in a sealed crawlspace, outside vents work against you. On humid days, venting brings in moist air that condenses on cool surfaces under the house.
What if there is standing water down there?
We deal with the water first. Encapsulating over an active drainage problem just hides it, so we assess grading, gutters and drainage before anything gets sealed.
