Black Steel Gas Line Installation

Code-compliant black steel gas piping for ranges, tankless heaters, fireplaces, grills and generators.

What you should know

Gas work is the least forgiving thing in a house, so it is worth doing properly. We run and modify black steel gas piping for new appliances, conversions and additions — correctly sized for the total load, pressure-tested, and left ready for inspection.

Straight talk

We will tell you when you do not need the work. That has cost us a few big tickets over the years and earned us a lot of repeat customers — which is the trade we would make every time.

What's included
  • New gas line runs for ranges, dryers and water heaters
  • Tankless water heater lines sized for the real demand
  • Outdoor kitchen, grill and fire pit stub-outs
  • Gas fireplace and log set connections
  • Standby generator supply lines
  • Line relocation, capping and leak investigation
Signs to watch for

When it is time to call

If any of these sound like your house, it is worth a look before it becomes the expensive version of the problem.

  • Adding a gas appliance

New load has to be checked against the existing pipe size — appliances starve when a line is undersized.

  • You smell gas or the meter dial creeps

Leave the house and call the utility first. Once it is safe, we locate and repair the line.

  • A tankless heater that cannot keep up

Very often supply piping, not the unit. Tankless demand is far higher than the tank it replaced.

Gas Lines FAQ

Common questions

Still not sure?

Call and describe what your house is doing. We will tell you honestly whether it is something we should come look at.

  • Why black steel instead of flexible tubing?

Black iron is durable, rigid and the long-standing standard for interior gas distribution. It stands up to physical damage in ways corrugated tubing does not. Where flexible connectors are appropriate we use them, but the distribution runs are steel.

  • Do you handle the permit and inspection?

Gas work should be permitted and inspected. We pressure-test every line we run and coordinate on inspection so it is signed off properly.

  • Can you run a line for a generator?

Yes — that is a common job for us, and we size the supply for the generator's full draw so it does not starve under load.
