Open cell is the usual choice for attics and roof decks: it is a better value per inch of R-value and it is vapor-open, so the assembly can dry. Closed cell is denser, adds structural rigidity and acts as a vapor retarder, which makes it right for crawlspaces, rim joists and tight cavities. We spec whichever the assembly actually calls for.
Will foam let me use a smaller HVAC system?
Often, yes — and that is the point. A sealed, insulated home has a much lower load. Because we do both the envelope and the equipment, we can size the replacement to the improved home instead of oversizing it.
Can you foam an existing house or only new builds?
Both. Retrofit attic and crawlspace work is a large share of what we do.
